Why would thousands of men and women trapse into the Egyptian desert in the the fourth century? What could be sought in that barren landscape? Well, Carrigan's compilation helps the reader get to that answer as these rich jewels were mined from that experience. These desert mothers and fathers sought what the early Christians had in faith, and sought it by moving to the desert to live lives of prayer and solitude.
The Roman Empire got word of this profound wisdom, coming out of the desert mothers and fathers, and Christians went out to the desert caves to learn more about how to live their daily lives. Something was happening in the desert, and Christians wanted to know what, and how they could get it, this wisdom and sense of faith. This collection contains : *Athanasius' The Life of St. Anthony *St. Jerome's The Life of Paul the Hermit *collected sayings of many desert fathers
Even through the ages, these desert fathers and mothers have much to teach people, after their deep contemplation and introspection....see what speaks to you from this volume.
